Auditions set for LTO’s production of ‘My Man Godfrey’

Little Theatre of Owatonna Posted on January 18, 2018 by Glenice SwensonJanuary 18, 2018

Little Theatre of Owatonna is pleased to announce auditions for the comedy by Erik K. Hatach, ‘My Man Godfrey’ on February 18 & 19 from 7 PM – 9 PM at the Little Theatre of Owatonna, 560 Dunnell Dr., Owatonna, MN.

In the depths of the Depression, Godfrey, a “forgotten man,” is rescued from his packing-crate home by ditzy socialite Irene Bullock during the course of a scavenger hunt. Irene offers Godfrey a job as butler to the banking family of Bullocks. Godfrey tolerates their eccentricities, alcoholism and general nuttiness. He cures hangovers, dodges missiles thrown by Irene’s jealous sister, Cornelia, and charms matronly Angelica Bullock, who sees pixies every morning. Irene and Molly, the pert Irish maid, both fall in love with Godfrey, but for Irenee it’s serious-and she’s determined to get her man. Falsely accused by Cornelia of stealing the famous Bullock Pearls (“de bullock boils” according to the detective on the case), Godfrey uses the opportunity to recover his personal finances-and, when the Bullocks end up going broke, he rescues them by getting them all (gasp!) jobs in The Dump, a new nightclub Godfrey has built to provide work for his friends and for the Bullocks, too. Finally, Irene weds her man Godfrey, and it all works out in the end.

Auditions will be held Sunday, Feb. 18th & 19th from 7 PM-9 PM; LTO, West Hills Complex, 560 Dunnell Dr., Owatonna, MN. Audition packets are available at the Owatonna Public Library or by contacting Mary Butler Fraser at 507-455-0125. Callbacks, if necessary, will held from 7-9pm on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018.

There are 16 roles for both men and women with ages ranging from the 20’s on up. Between 5-6 roles need to be 20-30 years old. There are a number of walk-on parts that only require being in 1-2 scenes. This would also be a good production for those interested in non-speaking roles or only a few lines.

The Artistic Director is Jon Terril and the Technical Director is Mary Butler Fraser. Performances of ‘My Man Godfrey’ will be 7:30 PM on April 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th. Matinee performances will be 2 PM on April 22nd and 29th.

‘My Man Godfrey’ is presented in special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.
