Little Theatre of Owatonna Awards 2017 Sarah Foreman Post-Secondary Scholarship

Posted on June 8, 2017 by Glenice SwensonJune 8, 2017

Little Theatre of Owatonna is proud to announce that Owatonna resident, Alyssa Crum, St. Cloud State University student and 2015 Owatonna High School graduate, is the 2017 Sarah Foreman Post-Secondary Memorial Scholarship recipient.

This scholarship has been established as a memorial to long-time Little Theatre of Owatonna member Sarah Foreman who died in February 2006. Foreman’s work as a director extended through 30 years, directing 18 shows and serving 11 years on the LTO Board during three separate terms. These extensive contributions and dedication to theatre are memorialized in this scholarship.

Crum’s resume includes roles in six productions at both Owatonna High School and Little Theatre of Owatonna. One of the recommendations notes, “She [Alyssa] is an extremely talented vocalist. She has an absolutely beautiful singing voice. She has a natural ability to portray a character even if that character is a completely different type of person than she is in real life. She is also a dancer.” About community theatre, Crum wrote, “Theatre connects us. No matter who you are or where you come from or how many shows you’ve been in, we all find common ground through theatre.” These successes and sentiments would be among those most appreciated by Foreman.

This scholarship recognizes and supports the post-secondary education of a current Steele County resident or a previous graduate of a Steele County high school whose studies and/or participation in theatre distinguish him/her. Crum is studying Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations. She plans to graduate from St. Cloud State in December, 2018. Currently she is cast in the summer production of “Funny Girl” at Little Theatre of Owatonna.

Crum will be recognized and receive her $1000 scholarship on the opening Friday night of the LTO summer production, Funny Girl, 7:30 PM, Friday, June 16.

Little Theatre of Owatonna is committed to providing dramatic arts opportunities and incentives for citizens of Steele County.
