LTO will have a booth at CulturFest this year!
LTO will be reaching out to all in attendance letting them know about all of the shows that are happening this season. Each children’s activity station at CulturFest is asked to pick a country as an origin for their activity.
The country LTO will be representing is Haiti. This ties in with the musical Heather Burke will be directing in the summer of 2019, “Once on this Island,” which is set in Haiti.
The activity they have chosen to do is creating jewelry. After research, it was discovered that Hatians do a lot with recycled material and they make a lot of jewelry (http://www.haitianbeads.org/our-story/). LTO will be making necklaces with recycled paper beads that will all be handmade by some LTO members, including Burke, in the way that they do in Haiti.
LTO is in need of your help collecting the supplies for this project. Cereal boxes or pop boxes that are in good condition, preferably already broken down if possible are needed to complete the project. Please drop off these items at Tri M Graphics, 625 E Main St, Owatonna, MN 55060.
They are also looking for people willing to help make the beads! It is a time-consuming process and will require patience and a steady hand. Please contact Heather Burke at boomerburke90@gmail.com to help!

It’s a great way to experience Haitian culture for both adults and children alike. LTO is so excited to be a part of CulturFest on September 22nd, the festival will take place on Wilson School Grounds from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm.
